Juvéderm

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is a dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid, a chain of sugars found naturally in your skin. Hyaluronic acid absorbs water to plump up the skin beneath the surface. In the process, it smooths out wrinkles.

Juvederm is powerful and can do a lot more than smooth wrinkles. When used well, Juvederm can plump hollows (particularly under cheek and eye-bones), lift eyebrows and even correct old liposuction defects or concave scars. Think of it as plastic surgery lite, without the invasive scalpel and long recovery period.

What Are The Different Types of Juvederm?

There are several different types of Juvederm products, each manufactured with different-sized molecules to address specific concerns.

Voluma is the thickest, firmest version of Juvederm. It is often used to contour cheeks and can last up to two years with full correction.

JuvedermUltra Plus uses fairly large particles, which means it works well for deep wrinkles and areas with thicker skin. It may last up to a year and sometimes can be “touched up” to last even longer.

Ultra is often used for moderate to severe wrinkles under your nose and around your lips and mouth. It generally lasts six months or more.

Vollure is designed to be effective at smoothing moderate to severe wrinkles, while using small enough particles to preserve ultimate flexibility for natural movement and expression. It is ideal for areas that are in constant motion, such as your mouth. It can last for up to 18 months with full correction. Volbella uses small, silky particles, which means it is an excellent choice for fine lines around your lips or eyes. You may see effects for up to 18 months with full correction.

What is it Like to Get Juvederm?

Juvederm administration can take between 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the area being treated. For your comfort, we may apply a topical numbing cream. Juvederm products are formulated with Lidocaine to make the process more comfortable. The dermal filler is injected as a gel via tiny needles.

You can usually return to work or other activities immediately but may have swelling, redness or slight soreness at the injection site that may last up to five days depending upon the area treated and the amount of injections needed. These will be discussed with you during your consultation.

Anything else I should know About Getting Juvederm?

Juvederm is for adults who want to banish wrinkles or subtly sculpt their facial contours. Juvederm has not been tested on pregnant women. If you like, you can bring a photo of your younger self to your Juvederm appointment to demonstrate the results you are hoping to achieve. You should avoid all NSAIDS (aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, Advil) for 5 days prior to procedure to minimize any possibility of bruising.  Eating pineapple, taking Bromelain or Arnica supplements is also helpful.
